Netflix to release The Witcher on December 20
Fri, 8th Nov 2019
FYI, this story is more than a year old

In just eight days, Netflix's latest trailer for The Witcherhas gained more than 11.4 million views on YouTube, and it also hit (at least) #20 on the YouTube trending list.

So it's fair to say that gaming, monster and fantasy fans alike are counting down the weeks until The Witcher comes to Netflix on December 20.

The series is based on the popular books and game series of the same name. In this series, “Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.

And while some game-to-film/TV series haven't been that great (think Warcraft and Doom), you can't really go wrong with Henry Cavill… right? (if the name rings a bell but you can't place him, think Superman in Man of Steeland Batman v Superman).

Yes, Henry Cavill will bring Geralt to live, alongside Anya Cholatra as Yennefer, and Freya Allan as Ciri.

Unsurprisingly, there's a sprinkling of cast members who have come from the likes of Game of Thrones and Harry Potter. Check out this list of who's who:

Jodhi May (Game of Thrones, Genius) as Calanthe, Björn Hlynur Haraldsson (Fortitude) as Eist, Adam Levy (Knightfall, Snatch) as Mousesack, MyAnna Buring (Ripper Street, Kill List) as Tissaia), Mimi Ndiweni (Black Earth Rising) as Fringilla, Therica Wilson-Read (Profile) as Sabrina, and Emma Appleton (The End of The F**king World) as Renfri, Eamon Farren (The ABC Murders, Twin Peaks) as Cahir, Joey Batey (Knightfall, Strike) as Jaskier, Lars Mikkelsen (House of Cards, Sherlock) as Stregobor, Royce Pierreson (Wanderlust, Judy) as Istredd, Maciej Musiał (1983) as Sir Lazlo, Wilson Radjou-Pujalte (Jamillah - Aladdin, Dickensian) as Dara, and Anna Shaffer (Harry Potter) as Triss.

And by the way, fans of The Witcher 3: Wild Huntgame should check out this review by our own Darren Price, as well as this gem called Monster hunting with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt GOTY Edition.

So, set your calendars for December 20.
