Review: Kaspersky Internet Security 2010
Tue, 1st Dec 2009
FYI, this story is more than a year old

It’s a breeze to install and with its basic interface, user-friendliness is clearly high on the agenda for Kaspersky’s latest entry into the security suite arena.

Included this time around is a ‘gamer’ mode, which decreases the suite’s demand for your system’s resources while also temporarily disabling any alerts. Perhaps most notable, though, is the ‘safe’ mode, which allows users to run Web sites and applications in isolation from the main operating system. This means that anything run in safe mode – essentially a separate operating system – won’t affect or change your computer in any way. However, the safe mode is a little more resource-intensive and you might notice a fair bit of slowdown when using it.

Pros: Offers everything you’d expect from a security suite, and the ‘gamer’ and ‘safe’ modes are nice little extras. Simple and non-intimidating interface. Very affordable.

Cons: Not the fastest suite tested. Anti-virus component not the greatest.

Verdict: Kaspersky offers a fairly comprehensive suite for the asking price, but it doesn’t offer too much more than what we’ve come to expect of a security solution.
